Back
A small fluffy masked lapwing chick stands in short green and brown grass, facing left. Its head has a dark speckled cap with a short grey beak and a dark eye with the beginnings of its yellow face wattle. The front of its neck, chest and belly are white. Its back and wings are covered in mottled brown and black down. It has long dark grey legs, with one leg stepping forward. The background is blurred and shows dry grass, dead leaves and grey stones along the top edge of the frame. The chick is in the centre of the picture.

A juvenile masked lapwing in our yard. The mother was wishing death on me for being too close, even with my 300mm lens!
