A black-necked stork, also known as a jabiru, stands on the edge of a farmer's dam in a grassy field. The bird has a long, dark beak, a black head and neck, and a white body with dark wings. It is positioned on the left side of the frame, facing right. In the background, some black-and-white cows are visible, partially obscured by the slope of the dam wall.

Black Necked Stork/Jabiru (Ephippiorhynchus asiaticus)

We were just driving home after visiting Kaity's aunt, and there was a Jabiru alongside a dam on the side of the road! I'd never seen one in the wild before, so we desperately pulled the car over so I could get some photos. The bird was quite a way away, so the photos aren't the greatest, but, it's a Jabiru and a lifer for me :)

@pharsicle@pixelfed.au This was out near Ipswich. It wasn't even on my radar as a possibility, but I recognised the bird as soon as I saw it on the side of the road!
